Situated at the crossroads of South and East Asia, Myanmar’s rich ancient history has combined with an air of modern mystery since the country closed land borders in 2020. Overland access remains highly restricted to foreigners, but with HiVolt’s deep local connections, we are proud to announce that we can once again show you this incredible part of the world by motorcycle.
Starting from Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand, we will transport motorcycles north to the border and ride into Myanmar. Motorcycles will be CRF300L and KLX230, because we are headed for a place where road conditions can be challenging, and where off-road riding is glorious.
For the first few days, tourism infrastructure will be limited and local people will be surprised to encounter you. You’ll have the chance to see regular life in Myanmar as we pass from check point to check point, further into Shan State.
We are headed for the extraordinary Inle Lake, where towns, villages and gardens dot the lake’s surface; where the streets are water and the only transport is by boat.
Beyond that lies the UNESCO World Heritage listed site of Bagan’s ancient city. Looking across the plains, you will see thousands of ancient stupas and pagodas remaining from a city which thrived a millennium ago. Walk the paths of the Old Silk Road and the Old Tea Horse Road, and experience the deep cultural heritage of a place where peoples and cultures have met for thousands of years.
Finally, we’ll join with local dirt bikers to explore the mountain trails of Shan State.
